you are the story

In all great, time-transcending stories, there are strong characters. (That's you.) Compelling, perfect through your flaws, hopeful and eager as you move into an exciting new stage of life.

I've found that the people who love working with me are the couples who care about being married, and view their weddings as an important kickoff event for the next stage of life, but not as the happily ever after.

My couples get married in the dirt on working horse ranches, drag me up the California coast in January to go on a camping trip that leads to an engagement session. They want to be friends with me because they want the people at their wedding to matter to them. All the people.

My couples love with wild abandon: throwing themselves into marriage with all the gumption and gusto of a hurricane, diving into life with each other like kids on the summer camp diving board cannonball into the refreshing pool. They have intimate weddings because they care about the special few, or giant weddings because they can't imagine celebrating without everyone they've ever met.

i am the narrator

i am the narrator

I was pretty young when I started telling stories. Fish stories, most of them. Absolutely terrible five-year-old fiction, a lot of times. I entered a story contest in second grade, and lost to a fifth grader. But stories were still… magic. They transported me. Awed me. And when I told them, I had not only the ability to get lost in a world other than my own, but the opportunity to paint a new world around the people hearing my stories.

No pun intended. A decade ago, I realised I could pick up my camera and tell stories about family history… family history that wasn’t history yet. I could immortalise a grandmother’s wedding dress… before she was even a mother. I could be the one taking those pictures to be found in an attic.

Stories are powerful. Special. They’re all meant to be told, because each one is a unique adventure: mountains and road trips, still waters and crazy waves. Sweetness, sorrow, love, laughter…

I am the narrator.

I was also the kid who was obsessed with family history. My first time up in our attic, I asked my mom, “Where’s all the old stuff?” I wanted family heirlooms—her grandmother’s wedding dress, photos so old they might fall apart in my fingers, the pocket watch that had been passed down from generation to generation. And, you know, that old steamer trunk that every family had lying around, right?

"where's all the old stuff?"

"BUT STORIES WERE STILL MAGIC."

SOMETHING CLICKED.

fun facts

bucket list

I dream of telling these stories through my photography:

I would love to shoot an Indian wedding.

I'd give my left arm to photograph a wedding on Kaua'i.

It would be a dream come true to photograph a London engagement session.

Please, somebody, let me do an engagement session in the rain.

If you're eloping to Paris, take me with you.

(i mean, if you're eloping anywhere, take me with you)

Book fiend. That's the only way to describe me. Some of my favourites are Watership Down, The Imperfectionists, and The Count of Monte Cristo

I've been gluten-free for three years. I miss wedding cake and blueberry muffins, but most of all, Cheez-Its

Fall. Does anyone else love boots and scarves and crisp air and trees that look on fire? I can't get enough

June 3, 1985 (the day I was born)

Weddings. Hi. I love them. All that love and new beginnings stuff, the pledging of lives, the starting of a family history. Marriage. The best.

Wardrobe capsule! Last year, I gave away several hundred items of clothing and now have my 35 basics. Minimalism is my friend

City & Colour, Canyon City, Colbie Caillat, OneRepublic, Jason Reeves, Phil Wickham, Rend Collective, Bethel, movie soundtracks, classical, all the indie coffee shop stuff

My dad is a brilliant photographer, and today I'm still inspired by the way he sees the world

Travel. Travel travel travel. Take me to ALL the places! Every place feels like home, except home. I'm a born wanderer

Notorious for loving technology, I've owned 42 cell phones, and am definitely an early adopter. I'm actually texting you from my Apple Watch right now...

Rain! Water falling from the sky in a glorious tumble down to earth so dry. I could do without the sun, if only it rained every day

Harry Potter. I know, I already mentioned books, but Harry deserves his own place on my favourites list

Obviously, I'm a storyteller, and writing is to me what yoga is to the world. Everything falls into a state of harmony when I have a pen in my hand

Even though I prefer rain to sunshine, I'll always be a swimmer and water polo goalie at heart

Chai lattes subsidise my life. When I'm not shooting, you can find me at Canabru, drinking more chai than is possibly healthy

wedding stories

Megan was amazing at our wedding, and family and guests alike commented on her quick ability, great personality, and eye for photography. We are incredibly happy with all our photos (engagement and wedding photos) and appreciated that she took the time to meet with us over breakfast before the wedding and worked with us on a "must-get" photography list. We were able to just relax and be ourselves around her, something so important in photography. She was able to blend classic moments with spontaneity, and also invite and capture our intimacy. She captured not only the big moments from the day, but also the little details and shared moments of our guests, us, and our bridal party. Thankful to have so many amazing photos to remember our day. It was such a pleasure working with her!

love,

Megan was the best vendor we had for our wedding. She was constantly keeping an eye on our timeline to make sure we were on schedule (she helped create the timeline and typed it up for us to give to all the other vendors). She made us feel like we were the most beautiful couple she had photographed. My friends and family still talk about how awesome the photographer was because she and her second photographer managed to put up 30 of their favorite pictures from the ceremony and getting ready into a slideshow to play during the later part of the reception! She went out of her way to make sure our day was special and I'm so happy we chose her to be our photographer!

love,

As a new bride you have so much to take in and think about. Where do you start? Her vision, style, and positive attitude sold my then fiancé and myself right away. We agreed that on a day where you spend more time with your photographer then possibly anyone else it was important for that person to be someone like Megan. She is always supportive, encouraging, talented, and above all else, fun. The day of the wedding came, happened, and before we knew it, was over. Luckily we have a TON of beautiful photos proving that it all actually happened. My grandpa, a 93 year old Episcopal reverend performed our ceremony. During the reception he pulled me aside and said “your photographer is the nicest, most professional, and least invasive photographer I’ve ever worked with.” Thank you, Megan, from the bottom of our hearts for capturing everything so gorgeously for us!
